How do you train a 1 yr. dog from going into the garbage.?
We (my 15yr. son and myself) have tried to train our puppy. We’ve done pretty well. She knows simple copmmands. stay, come, drop it, etc. She is a husky, sherpard mix. She is a good dog. She doesn’t chew on shoes or furniture and she is potty trained. loves to play and she loves to pick in the garbage. we close the door to the bathrooms when we leave. I have a spray “bitter lime” that is to prevent them from bothering things or chewing. We spray it on a paper towel and place it across the garbage can. She knock the can over and leave a mess. she is eating things she shouldn’t. Yes I don’t like the mess, but I don’t want her to get sick. She does have the run of the house while we are gone. The hours vary from 2-9hr several days per week. We leave out her toys and water. She is driving me crazy. I don’t like to keep her in her crate but if I can’t break this annoying habit I don’t know what else to do.
The easiest way to solve the problem is to move the garbage out of reach of the dog, at least while you aren’t home.
