questions regarding your dog?
Sort of like a survey. I just want to see some other people’s opinions.
1- Do you think it is okay for a family to buy a puppy from a reputable breeder just for a family dog ? (no conformation, agility, rally, tracking, obedience etc.)
2- Do you brush your dog’s teeth regularly?
3-Where is your dog fed? (kitchen floor, in his/her crate etc)
4- Do you take your dog into “pets welcome” stores such as petco and petsmart?
5- Do you dress your dog up for reasons other than warmth?
6- Do you take your dog’s collar off for them to sleep?
7- What is your dog’s biggest training motive? (tennis ball, kibble, hot dogs etc)
8- Do you allow your dog on the furniture?
9- does your dog have his/her CGC?
10- does your dog have free reign of the house when you are home and/or away?
Thanks for your answers =]
1. Yes. My husband and I love American Staffordshire Terriers, but after a bad experience with our shelter Amstaff and two small kids we found a wonderful breeder and got a great dog. Our other dog is from a shelter.
2. No, we do not brush our dogs’ teeth every day. We feed a premium food with no grain so there is no build up on their teeth.
3. Our dogs are fed in their crates. My cat is nosy and likes dog food and since the puppy and our adult are fed different amounts it’s important to separate them.
4. Absolutely. Taking your dogs out into different social situations is vital for their mental growth. Undersocialized dogs can be very dangerous.
5. We have reindeer antlers for our older dog, jingle bell collars for both. We will be dressing them up next year for Halloween.
6. I take my dogs’ collars off for baths and once every few weeks for a day or two to give them a good rub around their collar mark and give their skin a chance to breathe.
7. Charlie (our female) is treat motivated. Kitchi (our puppy) is motivated by affection and treats.
8. Dogs are allowed on the furniture only when they are invited. Once on the furniture they have to lay down and be calm or else they’re kicked off.
9. Charlie will be going for her CGC next summer. Our puppy is going to be enrolled in basic obedience to get his STAR, then will be tested for CGC. When he is 18 months old we are also going to get his ATT certificate.
10. My dogs are crated when we’re out. There is no such thing as “free reign” in my house for safety reasons, both for the dogs and my kids (16 month old twins). I make the rules and say where it’s okay to be.
You’re welcome!
